Description

Otis's ideal home

Otis is an 8 year old Crossbreed, he came in as a Dobermann X Kelpie but whatever combination he is, he is delightful! He has previously lived with cats and could join a home with a dog savvy cat. Otis can have doggy friends outside of the home. He could live with children of primary school age. Otis enjoys exploring outside but does not necessarily need his own garden provided he has access to a safe area where he can burn off some energy off lead.

Could you be Otis's perfect match?

Otis came into our care needing some veterinary care and has since been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and age related Osteoarthritis which he is now on pain relief for and this will need to be ongoing. He is a happy, friendly boy who loves people and has enjoyed meeting everyone and making friends at the centre. He loves a fuss and a cuddle. Otis travels well in the car and would love to accompany his new family on interesting walks and adventures. Once settled, Otis would be ok to be left for short periods of time. Otis has been good for all veterinary handling at the centre however his previous owners reported he disliked having his nails clipped so he may need to wear a muzzle for more invasive handling as a precaution. Otis is a polite and friendly boy who walks nicely on lead, he could benefit from some further training around recall as he does often get distracted by sniffs and things to explore and can be selective in when he comes back - we would advise using a longline while brushing up these skills before letting him off lead in unsecure areas. Please note that you won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can tell us what type of dog you’re looking for. You can also add up to four favourites to your application to give us an idea of the dogs you like, so we can consider you for similar dogs. Once you’ve submitted your application, we can’t change or update your favourites. Adding a dog to your application is not a reservation but a guide for us to find you a match.

Doberman Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Doberman.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 6 months, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
